What is the current organisational structure of City Gas?

City Gas is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Infrastructure Trust. For more information, please visit,

Is the gas supplied by City Gas safe?

The piped town gas provided by City Gas is safe. Piped town gas, which is primarily hydrogen gas, is lighter than air therefore it easily dissipates into the atmosphere in the event of a gas leak, as long as there is good ventilation in the home.

Why choose piped town gas by City Gas rather than Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG or commonly known as cylinder gas)?

  • We provide a continuous gas supply, without the need to worry about running out of gas compared to cylinder LPG supply.

Safe & Reliable

  • We are experienced in supplying piped gas islandwide to households and businesses in Singapore.
  • City Gas’ piped town gas is lighter than air. It will rise and dissipate in the air in the event of a gas leak.

Compact and Saves Space

  • Piped gas requires no additional storage space unlike LPG that is stored in a cylinder.
Is there a minimum charge for using piped town gas supplied by City Gas?

No, there is no minimum charge. All charges are based only on the amount of gas that is consumed. The gas meter is read on alternate months – one month actual and one month estimated. Any discrepancies due to the estimation will be adjusted when the actual readings are recorded.

What should I do if I wish to make alterations to gas pipes or the position of gas appliances?

You may engage City Gas or a Licensed Gas Service Worker (LGSW) for the installation or alteration of gas pipes. To make an online appointment with City Gas, please click here.

Are the catalogues of gas appliances retailed by City Gas available online?

Yes, details on our various gas appliances may be found here.

What should I do if I wish to relocate the gas meter to outside my HDB unit?

You will need to engage a Professional Engineer (Mechanical) to assist you with the relocation of your gas meter. This should be done in compliance with SCDF’s guidelines. For more information, please refer to the SCDF’s circular on gas meter relocation.

What should I do if I suspect a gas leak?
  • Turn off the gas valves.
  • Open all windows and doors. Town gas is two times lighter than air, which allows it to dissipate freely into the atmosphere.
  • Do not turn on or off any switches or appliances as this may cause electric arcing or sparks to occur.
  • Contrary to popular belief, do not attempt to detect a gas leak with a naked flame.
  • Call the 24-hour emergency hotline at 1800-752 1800.
Gas Water Heater
Do gas water heaters occupy a lot of space?

Gas water heaters are very compact and can be installed in the kitchen or service balcony. The gas water heater serves as a central heater as hot water supply can be piped from the heater to multiple points in your house.

Is it difficult to operate?

Gas water heaters are easy to use. As you turn on the hot water tap, the gas water heater senses the water flow and ignites the burner in the heater to give you hot water. The gas supply will be automatically cut off when the hot water tap is turned off.

How do I adjust the temperature of the hot water?

The hot water temperature can be adjusted with the front panel control on the water heater, or by using the hot and cold water mixer tap.

Gas Clothes Dryer
Are gas clothes dryers easy to operate?

Yes, the fully computerised control panel offers one-touch operation with programmes to suit different fabrics.

Are they safe to use?

Yes. Gas clothes dryers have a built-in sensor that can detect if there is a failure to ignite a flame and reacts by cutting off the gas supply immediately.

Where can I install a gas clothes dryer and does it occupy a lot of space?

The gas clothes dryer is installed in well-ventilated areas such as the kitchen and service balcony. As it comes with a wall-mount rack, it can be stacked above the washing machine thus saving precious floor space. Please contact our hotline for a site survey prior to installation.

What are the charges for installing a gas clothes dryer?

The standard installation fees for the gas clothes dryer in HDB flats can be found here. For private housing, a no-obligation site visit can be carried out upon request, after which a quotation will be provided.

Where can I purchase a gas clothes dryer?

You may purchase one at one of our City Gas galleries. Please click here to view our gallery locations.

Installation and Maintenance Charges
Why are there charges for the turning on or termination of gas supply?

The charges imposed to turn on or terminate your gas supply is necessary for City Gas to recover the labour and transport costs incurred for the works carried out by City Gas’ officers or contractors at your premises.

What is the procedure involved to turn on the gas supply?

The existing internal gas pipe installation is tested to ensure the installation is leak-free. The gas meter is then installed and the gas supply to the premises is turned on. The gas cooker will also be operated to confirm that it has a good burning flame.

What is the procedure involved to terminate the gas supply?

The gas supply is isolated via the removal of the gas meter, after which the ends of the pipe will be plugged off to terminate the gas supply.

Is the charge for the turning on of gas supply imposed on top of the standard gas pipe installation charge?

No. The gas supply turn-on is included in the standard gas pipe installation or gas cooker connection fees.

The gas supply turn-on fee will be imposed when the gas supply is requested for units that have pre-existing gas installation done. Eg condominium units with cooker hob connected.

Kindly refer to the Rates and Charges here.

Will the service charge be imposed if I were to apply for temporary termination of gas supply due to renovation works?

Yes, the standard charge for the temporary termination of gas supply can be found here. When carrying out renovation works within your premises, please ensure that the gas supply has been temporarily terminated and the gas meter is removed for safety reasons. There will be no further charges imposed to restore your gas supply and gas cooker connection once your renovation work is completed. The charges will be reflected in your utilities bill under “Gas Supply/Termination Charge”.

How will the service charges be billed?

The service charges will be reflected on your utilities bill under “Gas Supply/Termination Charge.”
