. Top 10 entries for “101 Reasons Why I Love Hawker Food” contest

“I love hawker food because the vibe of a hawker centre reminds me of my childhood and is able to display the identity of Singapore. The food in the current hawker centre is able to provide food from all over the world, such as Korean and Japanese food. The price of the food is affordable as well.”
– Chua Kaijun Jason

“Hawker food are cheap and good! There are so many hawker centres in Singapore and each has many stalls that show case our unique integration of culture and race. In addition, the working hours is long and in tough conditions.” – FoodieFC

“I love hawker food as it is accessible, yumilicious at affordable price for my whole family and i can dress casually. I can choose from prawn noodles, duck rice, ice kachang, chicken rice, fried fritters every day according to my mood and cravings without burning a big hole in my pocket.”
- Kerk Wee Been Precella

“Hawker food is the most shiok to eat as they are just bursting with local flavors. With every mouthful, our taste buds want to have a taste for even more. Prata, chicken rice, chendol, kway teow, ice kachang, rojak, yong tau foo, nasi lemak, mee goreng, mutton curry, chilli crab and there are still more hawker food to mention! Eating hawker food makes me happy – and happiness attained from enjoying one’s food is simply one of the best things in life.” – Asmida Asmanoe

“No matter how other countries attempted to imitate Singapore’s hawker center culture, they never quite managed to replicate the essence. And I always miss hawker food the moment I step out of Singapore, not solely on its quality, but the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the lively interaction, and the hawkers’ dedication in serving good food all make up for a pleasant dining experience cannot be found elsewhere. It’s uniquely Singapore-style fast-food that I can eat with a peace of mind at reasonable price with quality not necessary inferior than those from Michelin-starred chef! And didn’t we prove it recently?” – Chia Hon Fah

“Hawker food is a celebration of Singapore’s rich cultural heritage. Many of our forefathers had made their living by selling hawker food (which was learned or created from their own families). With many races & dialect groups in Singapore, each has retained the best of its cuisine recipe & passed down to the next generation. Each type of hawker food has its unique appearance & flavour, and that’s what make it true blue Singaporean! With an unbeatable variety of affordable hawker food available at every corner of the island, I can’t help “cheong-ing” to savour them when I’m hungry!!!”
- Neo Chin Ming

– New Swan Sim

– Zhang Li Fang

“ – Ng Yuen Fann

– Lim Boon Pee
