City Gas ‘Go Green, Go Gas’ Seminar
May 23, 2009 +

City Gas’ “Go Green, Go Gas” seminar held on 16th October 2009 at Raffles City Convention Centre saw a turnout of over 500 guests from developers, authorities, M&E consultants and partners from the gas appliance industry. With the main objective of promoting piped gas as a safe, convenient, efficient, reliable and green energy source for modern living, guests were treated to an eventful morning with a keynote speech from Dr Lee Siew Eang titled “Gas Heaters – Clean Energy for a Greener Singapore”, presentations and fringe exhibitions from key partners in the industry.

The study has quantified that the use of Town Gas emits a staggering 63% less carbon compared to using electricity. Thus, City Gas promotes the use of gas water heaters whereby a normal user can save up to 80% of their water heating bill while being more environmentally friendly. Dr Lee’s study also estimated that the fuel switch from electric storage heaters to gas continuous flow heaters may result in carbon emission reductions of up to 86% at the national level. This is equivalent to 0.5 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

“City Gas has installed more than 30,000 gas water heaters since year 2000. We are heartened that more Singaporeans are choosing gas over electrical systems and are now more familiar with the advantages of gas as a better alternative to electrical systems.” said Mr. Ng Yong Hwee, President and CEO of City Gas Pte Ltd.

The event concluded with a sumptuous buffet where participants had the opportunity to interact and network with like minded individuals.

City Gas Gives Back to Community
May 18, 2008 +

City Gas staff gathered at Spastic Children’s Association (SCAS aka Cerebral Palsy’s Centre) on 23 May 08 for a handicraft-making workshop. With the instructors’ assistance, our staff worked with the children with cerebral palsy between ages of 5 – 14.

The workshop began with tracing, colouring and the picture to be inserted into a photo frame. Our staff and the children also designed many wonderful looking clothes pegs as well as sweet little ‘Thank You’ cards. It is very heartening to see the concentration and determination on their little faces and our staff sitting next to them trying not to take over the task.

All these items were sold in a 3D2N marathon of activities sponsored by City Gas, organised by Nanyang Technological University. The 8 teams that participated in the marathon went around 20 town & heartland areas from 6-8 June 2008. City Gas and NTU have helped raised closed to $13,000 for SCAS. It will be a long and arduous journey for these children but with our help, their journey can be smoother, brighter with more laughter. With our warm hearts and support from the society, we hope these children will be able to lead more independent and meaningful lives.
